Overview

Appointment Type: Full-Time Regular A (FTR-A)

 

Location: Ft. Gillem, GA (& OCONUS)

 

*Salary Range: $79,996.80 - $104,020.80/year

 

ELIGIBLE FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

 

PURPOSE: Independently performs routine to complex technical examinations of firearms, ammunition, and ammunition components; conducting microscopic comparisons of questioned bullets and cartridge cases; examining various types of manufacturer, class and individual characteristics of tools and tool marks on a variety of objects; conducting shooting incident reconstruction; providing training for other laboratory examiners and personnel in regard to firearm safety and proper handling techniques; and guidance/expertise to latent print examiners in regard to assisting them with potential locations on firearms where latent prints may be found.

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide analysis of firearms, ammunition, and ammunition components; conducting microscopic comparisons of questioned bullets and cartridge cases; examining various types of manufacturer, class and individual characteristics of tools and tool marks on a variety of objects; conducting shooting incident reconstruction; providing training for other laboratory examiners and personnel in regard to firearm safety and proper handling techniques; and guidance/expertise to latent print examiners in regard to assisting them with potential locations on firearms where latent prints may be found.

 

  • Conduct examinations while maintaining chain of custody, and formulating interpretation results for forensic and/or intelligence exploitation.

 

  • Perform quality checking of instruments and reagents.

 

  • Utilize and submit findings to national databases.

 

  • Travel: OCONUS deployment required on rotational basis.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Four (4) years of experience with the analysis of firearms, ammunition, and ammunition components; conducting microscopic comparisons of questioned bullets and cartridge cases; examining various types of manufacturer, class and individual characteristics of tools and tool marks on a variety of objects; conducting shooting incident reconstruction; providing training for other laboratory examiners and personnel in regard to firearm safety and proper handling techniques; and guidance/expertise to latent print examiners in regard to assisting them with potential locations on firearms where latent prints may be found. 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in a physical science preferred.

 

  • Experience conducting examinations while maintaining chain of custody, and formulating interpretation results for forensic and/or intelligence exploitation. 

 

  • Experience with administrative and technical review (AR/TR) lab procedures.

 

  • Experience performing quality checking of instruments and reagents. 

 

  • Experience with utilizing and submitting to national databases. 

 

  • Must be able to pass security background investigation and to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. 

 

  • Ability to travel CONUS/OCONUS and to pass all deployment requirements for OCONUS medical screenings.

 

*The candidate’s starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate’s qualifications to determine salary.
