*Salary Range: $81,910 - $113,950

 

PURPOSE: To provide nursing/paramedical services in support of all aspects of Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS) emergency medical response to radiological/nuclear incidents. To participate in planning, implementation, and conduct of REAC/TS continuing education courses in radiation incident management.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in REAC/TS training activities on and off-site, providing instruction related to nursing aspects of pre-hospital and hospital emergency services. Participates in demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and drills/exercises. Develops and delivers nursing/pre-hospital lectures in REAC/TS continuing education activities.

 

  • Leads REAC/TS educational development activities for Nursing. Develops, reviews, and revises course materials. Potentially serves on Continuing Medical Education (CME) committee to represent Nursing perspective.

 

  • Assists REAC/TS staff physicians as nurse during consultation/examination of patients involved in radiological/nuclear incidents.

 

  • Maintains Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) status and ensures that REAC/TS deployment medical and nursing/paramedical staff maintain ACLS and BLS currency with goal of Instructor status, if not already an instructor.

 

  • Conducts quarterly emergency medicine drills/case reviews to help REAC/TS deployment team maintain basic response skills.

 

  • Participates as a member of a REAC/TS Emergency Response Team (ERT) during Federal Radiological Monitoring and Assessment Center (FRMAC), Accident Response Group (ARG), and other deployments including responses for the World Health Organization (WHO) Radiation Emergency Planning & Assistance Network (REMPAN) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Response Assistance Network (RANet). Supports/participates in REAC/TS 24/7 rotating call support.

 

  • Monitors and maintains all supplies necessary for the successful deployment of two (2) independent REAC/TS ERT(s). Makes recommendations on inventory to ensure REAC/TS emergency medical response is up-to-date with current standards.

 

  • Coordinates REAC/TS exercise and drill participation with National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) assets both Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside Continental United States (OCONUS).

 

  • Coordinates with the Communications & Marketing Department to improve the quality of REAC/TS internet presence, to include:
    • Updates to the REAC/TS website
    • Production of videos of the REAC/TS patient treatment demonstration
    • Administering, creating, and maintaining content for RadMED Application
    • Formatting/incorporating video and other content into REAC/TS lecture materials

Qualifications

Preferred Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) and 3+ years of job-related experience. Can be substituted for Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) and 5-8 years of directly related experience. Current registered nursing license in a state with ability to obtain licensure in state of Tennessee.

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with 5 years of experience or Master’s degree in Nursing with 3 years of experience preferred.
  • Experienced Registered Nurse with clinical, educational, and/or operational experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 6 and up to 10 years of clinical experience in Emergency, Critical Care Nursing, or related areas. (Field experience as a paramedic (EMT-P) and/or critical care/trauma/air evacuation/emergency background is preferred.)
  • Experience in military or federal emergency response activities, experiences, and emergency planning is highly desirable.
  • Technical writing experience is highly desirable.
  • Additional experience in education is preferred. Teaching experience in the area of nursing is preferred.
  • Serving as a member of the deployment team and being on-call is required.
  • Must be able to travel approximately 20% of time worked.
  • Must be able to speak/lecture to audiences up to hundreds of individuals, perform demonstrations of decontamination techniques, conduct interactive hands-on learning with students, and have the ability to master the knowledge of medical management of radiological injuries and illnesses.
  • Must have the ability to design and develop educational modules, assessments, and metrics.
  • Eligibility for and maintenance of Q Clearance, Radiation Worker II, and professional licensures/certifications are required.
  • Must be able to master, maintain currency in and be able to reiterate principles and practices required as an Instructor in American Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Ability to manage inventory, move and carry equipment in variable weather/conditions is required.
  • Ability to communicate via radio or other forms of communications with governmental and civilian agencies.

 

*The candidate’s starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate’s qualifications to determine salary.
