*Salary Range: $26.40 per hour to $34.33 per hour

 

Orau has a full time, Postdoctoral Researcher opportuinty with The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  The Postdoctoral Researcher will contribute to cutting-edge scientific research and innovation in support of NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in climate, weather, oceans, and coasts. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with NOAA scientists and partners to address critical environmental challenges, advance scientific knowledge, and develop tools and methodologies to inform policy and decision-making. 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in atmospheric science.
  • Analyze large datasets using advanced statistical, computational, or modeling techniques to address research questions. 
  • Develop and refine scientifc models, tools, or methodolgies to improve predictions and assessments. 
  • Prepare high-quality manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences, workshops, and seminars. 
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within NOAA and external research institutions.
  • Contribute to NOAA’s mission by providing scientific expertise to support decision-making and policy development. 
  • Mentor graduate students or interns as needed and contribute to capacity-building efforts. 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related discipline. 
  • 2 + years of previous postdoctoral research experience.  
  • Proficiency in programming languages and software tools relevant to the research area (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, GIS, etc.). 
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish in peer-reviewed journals. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with NOAA’s data, tools, or research programs. 
  • Familiarity with federal research priorities related to climate, weather, oceans, and coasts. 
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement or science communication. 

 

*The candidate’s starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate’s qualifications to determine salary.
